(wk 4A) The colonization

When the Europeans got to America they were surprised by the great development that the natives had. Though, what impressed them further than the great constructions, the diverse variety of plants and the beautiful animals, was the gold, the precious rocks and the elaborated jewels they had.
The natives were also surprised by the colons, but, instead of being amazed, they were terrorized. This happened because the natives weren’t used to see things and cultures so different, so when they saw the horses and the huge dogs (not mentioning all the bizarre objects the Europeans brought with them) they thought they were gods.
After a short time from the Europeans arrival, they started taking over the villages and exploiting not only the land`s resources but the natives themselves Now they were taken as slaves or were murdered. The natives were forced to work in mines and the products were exported to Europe which, was becoming rich while America`s natural resources were running low. At this time was when Spain’s biggest constructions were built.
The colons repressed the natives ,who, “hacian del silencio, del cinismo y la soledad los refugios de muchos de sus conocimientos y de sus prácticas ahora reprimidas”. They made disappear many of the great cultures that habited America by prohibing them the practice of their religions, rituals and celebrations and making of America the reflection of Europe.
